Plant of the Week: American Boxwood

The American Boxwood is a popular evergreen shrub with rich colored winter foliage. Left to its natural habit, they can grow significantly, but they are easily pruned and maintained to any desirable shape and size. American Boxwoods are very long-lived and moderately deer and leaf miner resistant.

Light Needs: Full sun to full shade

Watering Needs: Moderate watering as needed

Average Size: 5′ average height but can be pruned to a desired height

Why we love this plant: The American Boxwood is an excellent staple plant when considering a landscape design. Its evergreen nature makes it ideal for foundation planting and as a backdrop for a planting bed. Since it typically grows taller than other varieties, American Boxwoods are an excellent choice for hedge planting.
