Fountain grasses are a great perennial for almost any landscape and about as versatile as any ornamental grass. One of our favorite varieties, ‘Little Bunny’, grows in a smaller, compact form compared to a straight Pennisetum alopecuroides, only reaching 11″ at full height. Graceful, rich-green leaf blades are accompanied by rosy tassels that eventually turn a coppery tan. Since they are mound-growers, they are not an aggressive plant, and they are moderately deer-resistant.
Light Needs: Full sun
Watering Needs: Moderate watering as needed
Average Size: 6″ – 8″ tall
Why we love this plant: Another great staple plant for landscape design, Pennisetum ‘Little Bunny’ is great for massing or as a front border in beds. Since it doesn’t grow too tall, it won’t crowd out other smaller plants or hide larger foundation plants. Fountain grasses also add winter interest if not cut back in the fall.
