Plant of the Week: Tropical Hibiscus

You may think that in our area, the Tropical Hibiscus is not an ideal plant for installing in a landscape. But it makes a great potted summer annual and can be housed indoors during colder months. The beautiful blooms are typically 6″ in diameter and will last into autumn. As a low maintenance plant, you couldn’t ask for a better centerpiece!

Light Needs: Full sun

Watering Needs: 1″-2″ a week

Average Size: 6′-8′ tall, 2′-3′ wide

Why we love this plant: Real estate for plantings is hard to come by for many of our DC commercial landscaping customers. When there’s little space for planting typical summer annuals, we love to fill pots and planters instead. Many of our customers enjoy the hibiscus in tree form as a potted plant, which adds interest and variety. When it blooms, the beautiful tropical flowers are really eye catching!
