Plant of the Week: Mazus reptans

A fast-spreading, carpet-like groundcover, Mazus reptans is an excellent ground cover choice for landscape design. It will grow quickly in a tight, 1″ carpet. Small, bright green leaves are accompanied by blue or white (‘Albus’) flowers in May and June. This plant is moisture-tolerant, tough, and hardy.

Light Needs: Full sun to partial shade

Watering Needs: Moderate

Average Size: Groundcover

Why we love this plant: Mazus is literally an outdoor carpet that can tolerate some foot traffic if you’re tempted to feel the plushness beneath your toes. While we often use it to compliment flagstone walkways, it also works well as an underpinning to certain shrubs structures, such as roses. The hardiness of this strong growing plant can’t be beat as a groundcover.
