Now Taking Summer Flower Orders for 2014
Before you know it, winter will be gone and spring will have sprung. School will be out, and summer will be here again!
Summer is the most popular time of the year to plant flowering annuals. They add so much interest to any property – for the entire growing season. Also, there are so many more options with summer annuals versus any other season. Pansies are perfect for spring and fall, but there is not much else to choose from during those seasons. Beyond the risk of frost, summer brings a variety of colors, textures, and heights to the annual pallet. For example, Canna lilies are tall with multi color tropical foliage and unique blooms. Meanwhile, Superbells stay low and are perfect for trailing over the sides of planters with blooms of purple, pink, red, yellow, blue, or white. One of my favorite flowers last year was Vinca. With a medium height and spread, it makes a great bedding annual and is available in a variety of colors. Vinca is also really tough up against the dry heat of summer. Plus, the deer tend to leave it alone, which is quite rare among any flowering plants.
Of course, with all of the options available, it can be overwhelming to know what to plant where. Should you combine colors? What types of plants look good together? Should you stick to one? What grows in shade? No problem! Just let us know when is convenient for you, and we can walk your garden together to decide on plant types, colors, and places. We can consider empty spaces in your planting beds as well as planters. A common goal is to have a pop of color at your entrance, which could be at your driveway entrance, your lead walkway, or planters at your doorstep – in some cases, all of the above. Summer flowers enhance any garden of any size or style.
Because there is so much interest in summer flowers, supplies will not last. It is important to get your orders in as early as possible. At D & A Dunlevy Landscapers we place our greenhouse orders in March. This ensures a full selection of annuals to choose from. So, call or email today! If you already know what you want, or you know that you want to stick with what you planted last year, just let us know. We will get your order taken care of and secured. Otherwise, schedule a consultation and let’s come up with a plan together.
